You Are Not Alone

Whilst I was working on the 'You Are Not Alone' animation, my creative process was to create as much imagery as possible to allow me to get all my thoughts and ideas down on paper. This method of working left me with illustrations that  could accompany my animation.

At the start if the project I had the intentions of creating a zine out of my assets and flips books out of small sections of my animation. This was to create a physical connection to my work for my audience to take the relatable aspect a step further.

You Are Not Alone Zine

To bring a physical element to my project I wanted to design a zine that allowed my audience to feel the same thoughts and feelings as when they watched the animation.

As my creative process included creating lots of imagery, creating a zine allowed me to recycle  and display illustrations that went into this project, that may not have been seen otherwise.

The minimal use of text allows for the illustrations to speak for themselves and take you on a journey through the deep emotions a person may feel when struggling alone with their mental health.

Stretched Portrait

Whilst creating imagery for this project I discovered a technique by Charlie Klauenberg . First a strip of paper is folded so that it can be pulled in and out. Then an image is drawn onto the paper whilst it is folded. Finally the paper can be unfolded so that the two ends can be connected together, by drawing on the unfolded piece to create a stretched out image.

Inspired by this work, I wanted to incorporate this into my project to demonstrate the idea that people hide there true emotions on the inside where they cannot be seen, until they decide to open up.
